Deborah Clarke

My work is divided into two main ranges: Marine, drawing from the creatures past and present and Botanical. Each piece reflects my ongoing dialogue with the natural world, capturing its beauty, form, and rhythms.
The recent Leaf Creature series of ceramic works draws inspiration from Dorset’s rich folklore, particularly the oak and holly kings of the solstices. Each piece reflects the emotional shifts of the local landscape through the changing seasons, blending nature with myth. By incorporating elements from Dorset’s flora, I capture the essence of its habitats, often infused with humour, to evoke a deeper connection between the viewer and the environment. This work celebrates the cycles of nature, encouraging reflection on our relationship with Dorset’s diverse and evolving ecology.
