Paul Munford

Paul Munford is an artist and maker based in Dorchester, Dorset. He studied Technical Theatre at Croydon College, and worked in the entertainment industry designing and building scenery for theatre, television and film. He later moved into computer-aided design and manufacturing, and now works for Autodesk, the creator of the digital design tools he has used throughout his career.
While his professional life has increasingly involved digital tools and technology, making by hand remains a necessity: a way to experiment, work directly with materials and find a sense of creative balance and personal expression.
Paul’s practice brings together woodworking, drawing and painting, with a particular interest in the relationship between traditional craft and contemporary lving. His woodworking includes boxes, bowls and furniture, often exploring simple, expressive joinery, natural materials and the character that can emerge from functional objects.
His recent work at the Dorset Arts and Crafts Association summer showcase received a Gold award, two Silver awards and the Visitors’ Choice Award for Craft.
