Simon Young

Painting and sketching were regular activities for Simon during his formulative years; but in spite of an enthusiasm for oils and watercolours he joined the Army. Whilst in the Armed Forces he found time to get the brushes out; being a ‘soldier and painter’ worked. Deployments provided interesting painting opportunities, but made oil painting awkward – sketching and painting in watercolour became the norm throughout his career. Travels stimulated interest in light, colour, form and perspective. Now in retirement, time exists to explore what works and what doesn’t using watercolour. He’s often found painting around our towns, cities and coastline and has won awards at the Patchings Artist Magazine annual exhibitions and at the Mall Galleries in London. He enjoys working to commission and sharing his approach to painting at workshops. Visit his website and FB page for more detail.
