Challenged to start to paint in my late 50’s, I was soon hooked and went on to complete a BA in Fine Art in Birmingham. The Dorset landscape, with its changing moods shapes and colours, provides a great reason to live here. I love to walk and bring home the hills, sky and seas to paint. These paintings speak for themselves. My still life paintings are an exploration of the ordinary bits and pieces that make up the landscape of a family home: pairs of shoes, glasses and half empty bottles, fresh fruit, newly bought. I take such objects and arrange them in ways that appeal visually and that have resonance. These objects and arrangements are metaphors; they stand as proxies, and they can be read as actors on a stage. As artist, I am set designer and director. The audience can read the paintings however they like, by bringing their own life experiences into play.
