Sketching At West Bay July 24

CHARLES T MAHER BA (Hons)
I spent most of my working life as an Engineer in the automotive and aerospace industries; whilst always an interest in art, but it was not until 2000 that I found time to take up painting, since then I completed a Diploma in Art and Design at UCE Bourneville Birmingham, specializing in Fine Art & Printmaking and since gained a BA (Hons) Painting degree with UCA London via the Open College of Arts.

Whilst in Birmingham I regularly exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, the Water Orton, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield art societies.
Since moving to Weymouth my work is focused on the Dorset coastline and hinterland from Purbeck to Lyme Regis. I paint mainly in oils and acrylics, working from images found along Dorset’s Jurassic coast, where I find myself particularly attracted to the air of timeless isolation of the Fleet lagoon, Chesil Bank and Portland’s rugged and stark landscape, towering cliffs and abandoned quarries. I describe my art as atmospheric, developing my work in response to nature, whist striving to portray the particular the effects of light and conditions of the area.

I am a currently a member of Art in Poundbury, Artwey CIC, and Weymouth Art Group and represented online.
