Ali works in 2 and 3D from her studio in Charminster, Dorset. Her practice has its roots in church art with a stations-of-the-cross portfolio painted on 15 doors and bronze eternity-loop mobius sculptures with one edge and one plane but a triangular cross-section, to represent the three-in-one nature of the Holy Trinity. Her MA from Leeds College of Art (2017, distinction) enquired whether spirituality can be embedded in art and she has exhibited in many ecclesiastical settings including a huge reredos in St Ann’s Church, Manchester and as part of the ‘Crossings’ exhibition in Southwell Minster. Since moving to Dorset from Cheshire in 2019 her practice has widened to include figurative sculpture and painting a multitude of subjects, usually in oils or acrylic paint. She’s a self-confessed colour-junkie and her family raise their eyes to heaven when she yet again exclaims, ‘Oh! Just look at that light’.
