Lyn Kirkland

Living and working on the Isle of Portland, Lyn works primarily with encaustic wax. First used by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, Lyn discovered and fell in love with it upon returning to college as a mature student in 2012. Her work finds its inspiration in the geography of Portland, its history and the unique light. Her practice has gone from strength to strength with regular exhibitions, both home and abroad, and annual open studio events. A highly rated artist and tutor, she has taught introductory workshops and photo-encaustic sessions in encaustic wax to individual students and groups from across the World since 2015. A supportive and professional artist who has mentored and helped to create opportunities for other artists, Lyn recently ran the first encaustic wax art retreat on the Jurassic coast ‘Fusing the Ancients’, closely followed by a British Council Asia funded residency for an Indonesian artist who travelled from Jakarta to spend 10 days with Lyn, sharing and exploring the traditional and ancient arts of Batik and Encaustic wax. Lyn is an active member of the International Encaustic Artists (IEA) group and is about to embark on setting up ‘Encaustic Hive UK’ an online group for any UK artists using this unusual medium, with fellow experienced artist Julie Wrathall.
