Sara Mower

I am predominately a self taught artist living in the beautiful county of Dorset where much of my inspiration comes from. During lockdown I was able to spend more time on my art and although still working part time as a horticulturist in design and maintenance I try and paint if not daily then at least two or three times a week.
For travel I paint mostly in watercolour and Gouache allowing for quick and easy clean up. For the last five years Oil painting has become my medium of choice helped by having a dedicated art studio in the garden to take the inevitable mess of the materials!
I especially love painting plein air with other like minded artists or often head out on my own, although I still find the overload of information waiting to be captured a bit daunting!
When the weather is bad I head to my studio and set up still life subjects to paint from life or use reference sketches from my sketchbook travels as inspiration. For the last three years I have attended a tutored life drawing class and this has helped me to look for the big shapes within the subject, simplify what I am seeing as well as scale and proportions.
When I am drawing or painting time stops, only when I finish do I realise hours have flown by without me realising and another meal time is late!
