Kath Oxlee

I am a self-taught mixed media textile artist whose work is inspired by a lifelong fascination with colour, texture, and the natural world. My creative journey began through painting, where I discovered the powerful emotional connection that colour can evoke. Over time, this passion evolved into a love of textiles, leading me to explore the exciting possibilities of combining paint and stitch.
Today, my work sits at the intersection of fine art and textile art, where I blend traditional painting techniques with thread, often describing my process as “painting with thread.” Stitch becomes an extension of the brush, adding depth, movement, and texture while creating rich, tactile surfaces that invite closer inspection. I am endlessly inspired by the way fibres and fabrics can transform painted surfaces, bringing a unique dimensional quality to each piece.
As a self-taught artist, I view creativity as a continuous journey of learning and discovery. I am constantly seeking new avenues, techniques, and pathways to develop my practice, embracing experimentation and allowing my work to evolve organically. This willingness to explore keeps my artistic process fresh and exciting.
Nature is at the heart of everything I create. Living in and being surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Dorset provides an endless source of inspiration. The changing seasons, coastal colours, rolling countryside, and intricate textures found in the natural environment all influence my work. Through my art, I aim to capture not only the beauty of these surroundings but also the sense of connection, wonder, and tranquillity
