Eve Bonham Cozens

Eve Bonham Cozens Eve with recent Paintings

I cannot remember a time when I didn’t scribble – words, drawings, pictures. I took extra art classes at school and have painted on and off ever since. I spent much time over the years visiting galleries and learning about art. I’ve always written too – as a journalist, magazine contributor, writer of fiction. Under my pen name, Eve Bonham, I’m a published author of 5 books. Writing was the prime outlet for my creativity, and only in the last 20 years have I focussed equally on my painting, discovering the excitement and challenges of art. I have much to communicate about the human experience, though I don’t fit into any genre with either my writing or my painting. For years I painted in watercolour, which I still love for its freshness, fluidity, and purity. I enjoy working with pastels and more recently, I started painting with acrylics – I like their vibrancy and colour. I was inspired during one of our recent art workshops to try abstract painting. I like attempting new things and experimenting with media, colour and style. My work has no regular subject, though trees and birds, water and sky, windows and roofs do recur. I hope it’s about anything and everything. One of my art group friends once said that all my paintings tell a story, and I was as pleased as punch about her comment, because that’s what I am – a storyteller both in words and in art.
