Painting outdoors amongst nature is one of my favourite things to do. I have had some laughs, some interesting topics of conversation and banter with strangers, bizarre weather events appearing from nowhere, encounters with wildlife, and magical colour changes across the landscape at first and last light. The first marks put down in a response to my surroundings, chosen on the day, for me, are the most raw and precious one will get. I work on my painting outside to completion and never work on it in my studio, as to lose those marks will change the work completely. I also enjoy walking with my camera and capturing coastal birds. Using those images I like to take my time and settle down in my studio, with film music playing, and select the medium I feel can best portray the image taken, and then the decision of whether to lean to realism or impressionism, sometimes whimsical.
Over the years I have taken part in solo and shared exhibitions and have been a gallery owner. I have been an Art tutor for over 20 years, and run classes in Weymouth and Burton Bradstock. I really enjoy helping artists develop their skills, from beginner to the more experienced.
