Tilia Holmes

Tilia Holmes is a Dorset based artist who specialises in the ancient art of pyrography. She is inspired by trees and her canvas’ are sustainably sourced natural edged pieces of wood.
Studying at Bournemouth Arts University she developed a love for design and composition focusing on illustration. After university she began working in the film poster design industry alongside developing and selling her tree pieces, now focusing primarily on her wood art.
Her pieces begin with a hand drawn layer of wood burning illustration where she creates tones and marks with different levels of heat. These pieces then come to life with oil painting where she uses vibrant colours to accentuate the light hitting the leaves and the bark, often embellishing with gold leaf.
Tilia has exhibited her originals and prints across the country and is a resident maker in Dansel Gallery, as well as an associate member of The Arborealists art collective.
