Clare Hawkes

A graduate of the Arts University Bournemouth (BA Fine Art – First Class Honours) Clare works from a studio in Abbotsbury. In 2025 she exhibited in exhibitions at The Sherborne Arts Centre, at Durlston Castle, Swanage, and had work selected for the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts Annual Open Exhibition at Kennaway House, Sidmouth. In 2026 work was shortlisted for the NEAC Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries and she has been represented by Auto Amor at Terrace Gallery in Hackney and at their central Gallery in Sevenoaks.
She says: I am a contemporary expressionist painter, working with oils and a playful use of colour and gesture. As the process evolves, things creep in and I let them stay. Elements disappear or leave their legacy: veiled or buried, familiar yet ambiguous, even unexpected’.
The outcome is a visual sensation, feeling and perception. Perhaps evoking a memory, history or hanging on a distant moment.
