Art in Poundbury is delighted to be part of the ‘Poundbury Unwrapped’ exhibition which will open from 24th May to 1 June. It is the first time that an exhibition has had ‘Poundbury’ as it’s theme, therefore it seemed fitting to hold it in this magnificent exhibition space in Poundbury, the Jubilee Hall.

AS a big part of that we are proud to be Venue number 2 of the biennual Open for Art organised biennially by Artwey CIC and led by local artists, the community-focused event provides a unique opportunity to meet talented local creators, view diverse artworks and gain insights into their artistic processes.

Artists Mike Willdridge, Rebecca Guyett, Penny Treadwell, Mick O’Hea, Judy Tate and Pam Philip will all have a body of work on the walls alongside fifteen other Art in Poundbury Club members all with their own ‘artistic’ vision of our community.

Poundbury Unwrapped is an exhibition of artwork which attempts to show a wide range of individual, personal and visual responses to Poundbury. Each of the artists have been selected because of their various approaches to this theme.

Construction began in Poundbury in October 1993, well over a quarter of a century ago – the original concept being to reflect elements of London, through the design. Today, as well as possessing a successful and thriving community, much of Poundbury’s attraction is in it’s appearance, different from so many other new developments in the UK.

‘Poundbury Unwrapped’ will encapsulate this multifaceted community, portraying the many styles of architecture and seemingly adhoc layout of streets, alleyways and squares, which when all put together imbue Poundbury with a ‘sense of place’.
