Andrew Dumolo Furniture designer maker
I started making furniture for friends and family in 1987 and by 1990 I decided to leave the security of a career at Rolls Royce in Derby to become a professional furniture maker. Working alone has allowed me to be flexible with design and maintain the quality of my work. I have resolutely avoided commercial cabinet making to focus on designing stand alone pieces made mainly of solid wood with the measured use of veneer for effect.
My workshop is based just above Gorwell farm near Abbotsbury and has the benefit of a small showroom allowing the public to see my furniture and to browse quietly through photos of my work.
Commissions account for most of the furniture I make and the challenge of turning a client’s ideas into reality is always rewarding. Given a basic idea I will send the client two or three designs with costs which with their help are then fine tuned until we have a design which meets or exceeds the original brief.
