Julia Calleja

Julia is a Dorset-based Artist, originally born in Epsom, Surrey. She brings a sensitive eye and a versatile hand to her art, moving fluidly between mediums and styles. Experimentation lies at the heart of Julia’s practice. She embraces the freedom of acrylics and mixed media to create abstract and impressionistic visions – particularly of flowers – while the discipline of watercolours allows her to capture the delicacy of subjects with more realism.

Julia draws inspiration from her travels, her passion for poetry, and the quiet details she observes through macro photography. These influences converge in her paintings, which aim to convey not only beauty but also a sense of joy and presence.

This will be Julia’s first local exhibition. Previously, having had just one painting displayed at the Malthouse in Lyme, and one at the Duchess of Cornwall in Poundbury, our ‘Bright and Beautiful’ event is providing a jumping off point for Julia becoming more established as a Dorset artist. Currently, she produces bespoke contemporary pieces designed to complement the colour schemes of the homes of friends and family.

For Julia, painting is both expression and happiness. She hopes that each of her pieces reflects this joy.
