Please note: the information on this page is for all Young Artists under 17 years old, entering the Art in the Sunflowers competition.
Sunflower Trail and Activities for Children
As part of Art in Poundbury’s ethos to ‘make art accessible to all‘, we actively encourage and promote art for children at all of our events. Art in the Sunflowers, this year, is no different – and if you have a budding young artist at home, we would love to see what they are inspired to create from Maiden Castle Farm’s Sunflower 2025 Trail.
The Sunflower Trail is open to this year from 1 – 17 August 2025
With over 300,000 seeds sown this year and two sunflower trails displaying a dazzling array of yellow, orange, red and purple sunflowers – this is the perfect opportunity for artists of all ages and abilities to get outside and be inspired by nature.
Guided Art Activity Packs – available while stocks last!
Art in Poundbury have produced multiple Guided Art Packs, which are available FOR FREE from the Sunshine Shack on arrival.
Parents and children can use these packs at any time during the Sunflower Trail opening period. Any artwork produced by your child(ren) using these, can be submitted as their ‘Art in the Sunflowers’ Competition entry, if they choose – children’s entry to the competiton is FREE, but you will need to register and book the Trail and Competition through the Art in Poundbury website.
‘Art in the Sunflowers’ is entirely ‘not for profit’, run by volunteers, and with all profits going to the DCH Emergency and Critical Appeal.
Please return the Guided Art Packs once finished, so that others can enjoy them through the trail.
Art in the Sunflowers – Children’s Competition Entries
Whilst adults (18+) artists are required to produce their Competition entry on Saturday 9 August, and submit their artwork by midday Sunday 10 August 2025; we are opening up the Competition window for young artists. This is to inspire as many to take part as possible – so please help spread the word!
While the guided art packs will contain everything you need to complete the activity, we recommend that you bring any art materials and supplies with you – especially if your child has a preferred style or medium to work with. For example, pencils, crayons, paints, brushes, water pots, paper/canvases…
For the duration of the Sunflower Trail, children can produce as many pieces of art inspired by the sunny blooms. Only one entry can be submitted per child, but the deadline for Young Artist (17 and Under) entries is Sunday 24th August at midday
See the Competition Entry Instructions below for submission requirements.
Young Artist – Competition Entry Requirements
Alongside the 18+ painting competition on Saturday 9th August there will be three competition categories specifically for Young Artists aged 17 and under, for which entries will be applicable until the Sunflower Trail closes.
The Young Artist categories are:
- ages 5-9 years old

Any Artist 18 and over, will need to take part under the main competition in the relevant Artist Ability category.
