James Meiklejohn studied at illustration at Brighton University and life and portrait painting at Heatherly School of Fine Art, Chelsea His portraits have been exhibited in the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery and at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In Dorset he has had works exhibited at Jerram Gallery, Sherborne and Sladers Yard, West Bay James paints primarily from life, be it people or landscape He is often out in the Dorset landscape all weathers usually freezing in the winter, frying in th summer, rained on or blown about and just occationally in perfect conditions He in particulary know for his paintings of Hambledon Hill, an Iron Age hill fort in North Dorset ( a National Trust monument ) usually painted in context to animals such and birds such as Hares, Swallows and Hawks which are often found as road kill or taxidermed specimens He is currently running regular life drawing classes and one day life painting sessions at Dorset Museum, Dorchester and the Studio at White Hart, Holnest, Sherborne
