SUMMARY:Art at The Duchess with Lyn Kirkland
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the exciting properties of encaustic beeswax has been
  my passion for several years. First used by Ancient Egyptians as a painti
 ng medium\, it saw a resurgence last century and has continued to flourish
 . Still relatively unknown in Europe\, but once discovered\, never forgott
 en. When I first took up my brush and dipped it into molten wax and pigmen
 t I knew I was hooked!\nMy work is very much process driven. I am intent o
 n pushing the medium as much as I can to develop texture\, create a narrat
 ive with collaged items\, and explore the translucence of this ancient med
 ium. I move between abstraction and realism\, taking my lead from the orga
 nic nature of the wax. The way it describes movement\, colour and marks bo
 th within and on the surface is so exciting. I have been teaching and prom
 oting encaustic wax for over ten years\, working from my studio space at S
 t George’s Studios on Portland\, Dorset. I am a member of the Internatio
 nal Encaustic Artists (IEA) group and very recently attended an encaustic 
 painting retreat in Ireland\, with other IEA members. Meeting my ‘tribe
 ’ of like-minded artists has refreshed my soul and inspired my art.\n
